continuing the exploration of bristol 4/4 variants, immerse proudly offers forth this decisive two-tracker from the prodigious mind of jacob martin, better know as hodge. you might be more familiar with hodge from his work as part of outboxx, who we proudly debuted on ime025. that said, he first surfaced last year with the deadly conjecture on another fine bristol institution, pollen. one thing rings true in any of the output hodge is associated with, melody. shirking the safety of sterile mechanics that so many producers hide behind, he tackles interplaying notes and harmonies with a fearless exuberance. opening track the fall kicks off on a jerky groove and ice-cold organ murmurs, gently easing in layers and clips of sound with the same joie de vivre as akufen and other micro-house progenitors. ‘crush’ kicks off on a more decidedly broken tip, keeping the twostep shuffle slow and easy as whispers of garage skip in between the warm pads. the overriding vibe on hodge’s ep is one of unpretentious, good times tunage.

our next release on the kolour mother-ship features rising canadian talent the noodleman. he laces us with an absolute picturesque, low-slung deep house affair that, for us, is one of those sweet-spot tunes.

pulp disco & the outcasts - overnight to dusseldorf is the latest release on ashley beedles out hear audio imprint. put together in it s original sublime whoozy electronic form it was passed to mr. beedle who then took up the space baton with his studio partner darren morris to create the kommune mixes. with a nod to can, talking heads and some raucous psychedelic punk funk, the boys have whipped up two dancefloor killers that compliment the kosmische referencing original.

just in time for the australian summer, sydneys indie-electronic-popettes, convaire bring the first and title tune from their highly anticipated debut ep, the new you. equal measures quiet childhood nostalgia and barefooted summer festival romance, the new you is a sparkling indication of what convaire do so exceptionally well - the art of creating synth-happy, 80s inspired, chill-sweet pop songs. inspired by the likes of talking heads, friendly fires and phoenix, convaire were first given airtime by local sydney radio heroes, fbi radio. since then, the four-turned-five piece released their first single gate track in september 10 to national airplay and gushing reviews. their exceptional reputation was vindicated whilst winning a triple j unearthed initiative, which saw the band play alongside delorean, kele (bloc party) and 2manydjs at sydneys iconic dance festival, parklife. two singles, over one hundred shows and a few tambourine shakes later future classic saw potential in john toweys vocal likening to the cures robert smith and the energy of the synth-loving slattery sisters. the new you ep is available in a 7 inch vinyl package + 5 track bonus cd, which is exciting enough to warrant a shoe shuffle and a couple of hand claps.

11 track double vinyl album from new mark broom and james ruskin supergroup ! limited initial run on marbled grey vinyl - similar look to the recent sfbsf003 surface 12inch full picture sleeve. the project, knows as the fear ratio, has seen two of the uks finest proponents of no-nonsense, immaculately sculpted techno locked in the studio together. these sessions have already borne three 12 inch titles - no time soon, erotic misery and night nurse – two of which were released on ruskins blueprint records, with the other pressed up on brooms beard man imprint. the fear ratio moniker was adopted following the release of these club-focused 12s, with the album project honing in on more abstract and experimental textures. ruskin revealed details about the project in an interview earlier this year. he said a live fear ratio project was also in the works, with a press release claiming these would commence in 2012. as the fear ratio, broom and ruskin delve into the hinterland of contemporary music. a space where cold atmospheres meet lush melody and tough, yet clipped pulsating beats. from the warm poly-rhythmic funk of >ax< to the deep spatial reverb of >guv 1<, the dub induced strains of >pinhead< and melancholic refrain of >morning blues<, ruskin and broom deliver their new artistic agenda

despite the post-industrial label often affixed to factory floor, there is a greater complexity of sound within the bands music that defies such facile descriptions. yes, there are rigid, fixed beats, and other sounds from the manufacturing plant, as suggested by the trios moniker. but there is also an underlying danceability that belies the seeming austerity of the sound, a hint at warmth that cuts through the permafrozen exterior. that curious balance has paid endless dividends thus far: they have been remixed by producer gavin russom, liars angus andrew and no ages dean allen, remixed and released by optimo, remixed and collaborated live with throbbing gristle legend chris carter, and remixed and produced (!) by joy division and new orders stephen morris. its been a whirlwind few years in terms of musical accolades, and factory floors dfa debut is a glimpse into why.

here comes the second part of french team lowkey & kardinals electrovino series!
the first part is nicely rockin the floors around the globe and found its way into many cases (or better said file-lists) of many djs from small to big! the second part follows the path with another rocker called oroborus (the name taken from an ancient greek tale of a dragon eating his own tail !) with a kind of tech-housy but techno bangin feel to it, bringing back the old casio organ sound. followed by two versions of indian summer, one in its more smoother original version and the second in a very nice prime time techno version by kardinal himself!

producer oliver ho aka raudive is not a dark horse. two years after his acclaimed abc ep he returns to rrygular with his new release >love is the devil<. straight and facing forward but also back to the roots somehow. that doesnt need to be a compromise. it is a symbiosis that works absolutely fine in case of this particular 2-tracker. like always the englishman knows how to use percussion elements without getting cheesy. a certain reference to electro is obvious but it underlines the typical dirty raudive sound rather than trying to be referential. but who needs genres anyway? club-disco-techno-house-funk-electro - some kind of monster!

kill the pain: epic is the only way to describe the extended intro of kill the pain, featuring acoustic guitar and an earnest male vocal. then, just before two minutes in, things quickly take a nasty turn as choppy breaks splinter into pieces and the bassline reboots the texas chainsaw massacre. an aggressive, genre bending, sure fire floor smasher.
letting go: teaming up with kryteria for the flip, a eurphoric, trancey intro leads into a chainsaw reece, setting the scene for the chaotic chiaroscuro to come: beyond the drop sweeping synths and ethereal vocal snippets somehow successfully coalesce with heavily edited breaks and sawing bass, creating a kind of beautiful violence. subsequently, side effects of letting go include spontaneous eruptions of feet on the floor and hands in the air.
